The Witches by Roald Dahl
This is the first book that we are reading for our 4th and 5th grade book club. I enjoyed re-reading this. It’s been just long enough that I was starting to forget some of the details.
Do you believe in witches? Could you spot a witch if she were walking past you on the street? Our character’s grandmother can. She knows all about witches and tries to protect her grandson from them by giving him all the facts. However, the facts aren’t quite enough and when the boy is turned into a mouse, he needs his grandmother’s help to stop the witches from turning all the children of England into mice! Will they be able to stop them? Tell us what you think.

I enjoyed reading “The Witches” for the first time for the 4th and 5th grade book club. I have read many books by Roald Dahl and was pleased to find another fun one.
The hero in this book is driven to help save children and is willing to risk his own life. What an impressive character. I kept hoping he would be turned back into a boy for all his hard work, but I guess I just need to be satisfied with knowing that his grandmother loved him, no matter what physical form he takes.
i read the witches for the 4th and 5th grade book club. i enjoyed it a lot i think Roald Dahl is a great auther. i think everyone should read the witches it is an amazing book. the witches is my favorite book. i love it. if you are interested in reading children chapter books then definitly read it. it is the best book ever
the witches is the best book! everyone should read it
I love the witches and i hope that they come out with a witches 2. The fist time i have ever read any of the books by him (Roald dahl) was in the 4th and 5th grade book club. It is very good and i am going to tell some of my friends to read it.
I was hopeing that the book would not end. I remember on the last few pages of the book i was trying to start making a witches2 i did not do so well. I am going to keep on trying.
I thout that it was a little weird that in the book you never find out what the hero’s real name is. Also that in the car acsudent he only got a little mark on the top of his head and his parents died.
At fist i thought that the Grand mother was a witch. She was not though i was also hopeing that after all of the boy’s hard work he would get turned back in to a little boy.
I am pretty sure that every one in the book club loved the book i know that i did i think that every one in the world should read it.
At the begining of the book i was thinking that the Grandmother also known as grandmama, was a witch althow she is not she just knows a lot about witches and at the end of the book she knows a lot about mice.the other thing i think that is cool about the grandmother is she did not freakout when she saw that her grand son was a mouse
i was thinking the same thing as you allie it is the best book in the word i love it and every one who likes children chapter books should read it
katharine i liked how you got the same idea as me it was an awesome book!
